The good people at Nubar sent EyeshadowCult.com their "We Care" collection to raise cancer awareness. We received a set of 3 nailpolishes: Diamont Seal & Shine Top Coat, Oh Baby Pink and a Foundation Base Coat. I do have to say I was very impressed witht he quality of these lacquers. The base coat dries up almost instantly and preps the nails for your main color. The Oh Baby Pink is a beautiful matte, pale pink (just like those little cancer ribbons we see everywhere!) and although at first I didn't think I'd be feeling this color, I was actually very satisfied with the look. It's totally different from what I would usually rock... and that's probably why I ended up liking it (different is good in my book!).
Out of the three polishes, the one I loved the most was the Diamont Seal & Shine. It coats the nails beautifully to protect the main color and also shines like nothing I've ever tried before. For real, for real. Usually after they dry on your nails, shine polishes tend to dull a little bit and start to wear off after a few days. This one kept my nails looking "fresh-outta-the-nail-salon" for as long as I had it on which was a little over a week!
Nubar is all about being a healthy alternative for beautiful nails. And by that, they mean that their lacquers are formaldehyde-, toluene- and phthalate-free. Just so we know, let's break down what these ingredients are: The type of phthalate that goes into nailpolish is used to prevent chipping and breaking. Phthalates are a family of compounds made from alcohols and phthalic anhydride. They are oily, colorless, odorless liquids that do not evaporate readily. (Read more)
Toluene, also known as methylbenzene or phenylmethane, is a clear, water-insoluble liquid with the typical smell of paint thinners, redolent of the sweet smell of the related compound benzene. Like other solvents, toluene is also used as an inhalant drug for its intoxicating properties. Inhalation of toluene can be intoxicating, but in larger doses nausea-inducting. (Read more)
A colorless, pungent-smelling gas, can cause watery eyes, burning sensations in the eyes and throat, nausea and difficulty in breathing in some humans exposed to elevated levels. (Read more)
It's good that their nailpolish doesn't contain any of these ingredients, dontcha think? Although I don't see the "We Care" collection anywhere on their website anymore, you can check out their "Support The Care" one which retails at $28.00 for 4 lacquers. 10% will go to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital for cancer.
